Deliberate Dreams

This series of work was part of Gabrielle Bejani’s first solo show, Deliberate Dreams, exhibited at Saleh Barakat Upper Gallery in Beirut

In this show, the artist explores a filiation with obscurity. Her pieces are meant to answer questions such as: What emerges when light recedes?
Who blooms in the dead of night?
Who, or what, finds agency hidden between the stars?
In the night, she uncovers a mediation between grief and hope, between refuge and gloom.
Her lone characters, curled up and cloaked in the space/time of darkness, let themselves feel what they can't in the light of day. Minuscule compared to the immensity of their world, they contemplate.
These artworks are about being stuck in between. When no one truly believes in it anymore, but everyone, out of love, desperately still wants to.
